About the event

Join us as we celebrate a century of connecting people to place. When out and about, have you ever really looked at your surroundings? How did you get there? How do you know you've arrived?Since the beginning of time, there have been visual cues that let us know where we are and where we're going. They communicate without sound. They create moods and environments; they convey messages; they save lives; they can be functional; and they can be art. Come hear, see, and learn from some of Detroit's best about the artisanal tradition of hand lettering, painting, and gilding while trying it for yourself! See historical images and the tools used for nearly a century as we take you on a tour from yesteryear to today's state-of-the-art technologies used in connecting people to place.

About Banner Sign Co.

Detroit is home to Banner Sign Co., which is now celebrating its 100th anniversary. Banner began with Lee Jordano, a dream, a quill, and a can of paint. This laid the foundation for the next generation, Joe Piach, to carry on the artisanal tradition of sign painting until he sold the company to his son Nick and wife Nicole in 1992. Today, still family-owned and operated, Banner relies on its creative roots. Specializing in city-wide events, environmental graphics, and corporate identity, we design, produce, and install the signs and graphics that connect people to place, as we have since our beginning in 1924.
