About the event
Manufactures, makers, limb loss community members, innovators, entrepreneurs, designers, students, problem solvers, design faculty, business coaches, recreational athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts come together on interdisciplinary teams to brainstorm and prototype new adaptive apparel, accessories, and equipment that would improve access to outdoor recreation for people in the limb loss community.
The Design Jam is a hands-on design and prototyping challenge that brings product innovation to a collective and open space where all types of voices influence the process. This event will bring together interdisciplinary teams to: - Inspire innovation within the state's manufacturing sector; - Catalyze collaborations between designers and manufacturers throughout Michigan; - Create solutions for recreational athletes with limb loss; - Initiate relationships between designers, manufacturers, makers, service providers, and customers; - Train more students, designers, employees, and product entrepreneurs in the practice of inclusive design Eight to 10 teams will be curated to ensure diverse representation.
This is a 2-day event occurring September 6th - 7th.

About Design Core Detroit
Design Core Detroit champions design-driven businesses and their role in strengthening Detroit’s economy. It offers services to strengthen, grow and attract design businesses, increases market demand for design services, and tells Detroit’s design story locally and globally. Design Core is a department within College for Creative Studies. Design Core serves design-driven industries that specialize in design or utilize design as a central discipline of their business strategy. As the steward of Detroit’s UNESCO City of Design designation, Design Core serves as the convener and backbone organization for the Detroit City of Design initiative.
