FABRIKATE: REIMAGINE. REDESIGN. REWEAR.

At D'Artillery, we are dedicated to uplifting immigrant women and global artisans through creative enterprise, skill-building, and cultural exchange. With this purpose in mind, we are hosting FABRIKATE: Reimagine. Redesign. Rewear for Detroit's Month of Design—a hands-on, design-forward workshop delivered in partnership with Taqwa Safiya Design, founded by Taqwa Husan.

FABRIKATE invites participants to explore how textile and surface design can be used to redesign, recreate, or rewear clothing and accessories. In this immersive three-hour experience, guests will transform existing garments or accessories into one-of-a-kind pieces of artwear. Guided by accessory designer Taqwa Husan, participants will learn and apply techniques such as appliqué, layering, stitching, and embellishment—blending contemporary methods with inspiration from Arabic, Bangla, and Wolof textile traditions.

Participants are encouraged to bring a meaningful item from their wardrobe—such as a saree, jacket, or scarf—and reimagine it using a curated mix of fabrics, beads, trims, and textures. The workshop offers…
