As technology continues to infiltrate our daily lives, Design by Desire places a necessary focus upon slowing down, appreciating the value of artisan handcraft, understanding natural materials, and embracing a longing for formality. This 1st iteration, presented at Rossetti, marks the beginning of a conversation demonstrated through fashion, furniture, installation, painting, video, and live performance. Featuring the work of Kayla Anderson, Angela Bell, Aki Choklat, Maya Davis, Kate Donoghue, Dalia Reyes, Cristin Richard, Chris Turner, and Chelsea Von Mach.
Julie Cruz
Julie Cruz combines her design expertise and chemistry background to help mission-based organizations catalyze their creative visions. With nearly a decade of design experience, she specializes in refreshing brands, crafting impactful campaigns, enhancing usability, and guiding collaborators through the creative process. Julie's scientific training provides a methodical approach, while her artistic passion drives her to blend visual storytelling with people-centered design. Her thorough research and discovery process ensures a deep understanding of each project's challenges, resulting in accessible, adaptable, and user-friendly layouts.
Scarlet Crane
Shayla Johnson, Owner of Scarlet Crane is trained in product design at Georgia Tech and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Shayla Johnson specializes in minimalist line drawings and watercolor paintings to create contemporary patterns that bring everyday products to life. She has been serving as a maker and textile designer in Detroit for over 10 years. Her passion is creating hand printed art and textiles that are used to make stylish and unique home decor and accessories.
Too Much to Dream by Natalie Elle
In this work, vibrant colors blend with elements of leaves and plants, creating a visual poetry that reflects the beauty of the natural world. I seek to bring the tranquility of the outdoors inside, finding solitude and peace in nature and plant life. Through the interplay of color and texture, I invite viewers to connect with nature's essence, capturing the harmony of its rich hues and delicate details.
