Emerging Together: Celebrating Community, Art, Music & Innovation

Emerging Together is the culminating celebration of a remarkable journey of collective artmaking, where modern music, biometric data, emerging technology, and ancient artmaking traditions come together.

Over the course of this project, artists and community members have co-created Cocooned Together - an intimate, immersive structure that will “live” at Oakland Avenue Urban Farm on Detroit’s North End, just behind the AKOMA Art House. Created through the ancient practices of wet felting and eco-dyeing, the Cocoon is both a work of art and a reflection of the people, stories, energy, and creativity that brought it to life.

For Emerging Together, musician and composer Marion Hayden will perform original compositions inspired by biometric data collected from participants throughout the project. The technologies integrated into the Cocoon will also be revealed, creating an unexpected dialogue between ancient craft traditions and contemporary technology.
