Frank Lloyd Wright & the American City Today: The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy 2024 Annual Conference

Time & Location

Sep 25, 2024, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Westin Book Cadillac Detroit, 114 Washington Blvd, Detroit, MI 48226, USA

About the event

As Wright’s conceptions of “The Living City” developed across the decades, he came to see the automobile and modern means of communication as tools to rethink the historical tension between the city and the suburbs in American life. Detroit and our experiences with its urbanized landscape offer us a chance to examine the relationships of Wright’s work and legacy to historical and contemporary issues of American landscapes, cities, and suburbs through a critical lens.   Come together with preservationists, owners of Wright-designed houses, administrators of public sites, architects, scholars, restoration specialists, and design enthusiasts from around the world for five days of educational talks, evening celebrations, and tours. We’ll visit six Wright-designed buildings, as well as works by Eliel and Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph, Alexander Girard & more – many not regularly open to visitors. The gala will raise support for our mission and celebrate the recipients of the 2024 Wright Spirit Awards.
