About the event
From Resistance to Resilience is an exhibition and panel discussion exploring how design can help preserve, promote, and share the history of Detroit and its residential neighborhoods. It highlights the preservationists and designers behind innovative projects that center community storytelling and interconnected narratives of place, memory, and meaning.
On September 9th, event sponsors Quinn Evans and AECOM will be joined by local leaders in preservation, storytelling, housing and development. This curated event coincides with the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of September 8th, 1925, the day Dr. Ossian Sweet and his wife Gladys moved into their house at 2905 Garland Street, precipitating the confrontation with a mob of angry white neighbors who resented this Black family moving into what they considered their territory.
