About the event
Human Design Moves the Future is a one-day, multi-scalar activation that positions community, culture, and lived experience as critical infrastructure for the future of cities.
Hosted at the Design-Build Green Hub in Southwest Detroit, this activation reframes design as a collective, culturally-rooted process—where builders, planners, planners, residents, artists, co-create pathways toward more equitable and resilient neighborhoods.
Grounded in the belief that design is not neutral, this immersive experience challenges traditional top-down development and design models by advancing community-led design, narrative building, and participatory planning practices. It centers the voices, histories, and cultural assets of
Southwest Detroit—particularly its Mexican and Puerto Rican communities—through storytelling, spatial activation, and hands-on design engagement.
At its core, this activation explores how human-centered design, cultural preservation, and inclusive development strategies can shape the built environment in ways that foster belonging, economic mobility, and long-term sustainability.
Design.
