About the event

One to Keep, One to Grow: A Community Eco-Dyeing Experience

Celebrate Detroit Month of Design by discovering how nature can become both artist and designer. Drop in anytime during this free, hands-on workshop at AKOMA at Oakland Avenue Urban Farm and create beautiful botanical prints using leaves, flowers, and other plants grown on-site.

Participants will learn the basics of eco-dyeing and plant printing while experimenting with natural colors and patterns on cotton fabric. You'll create two unique botanical prints—one to take home as a keepsake and one to donate to Fiber Art on the Ave, a collaborative outdoor textile installation at Oakland Avenue Urban Farm. Together, these individual pieces will become a vibrant community artwork celebrating creativity, sustainability, and our shared connection to place.

No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. This drop-in activity is open to all ages and skill levels, making it a fun and accessible…
