Show Your Spirit

The Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority (DWJBA) is proud to present Show Your Spirit. More than an art exhibition, Show Your Spirit is a civic celebration - an open invitation to Detroiters, creatives, city leaders, and global visitors to gather in a space that belongs to all of them and engage in a living dialogue about what Detroit’s future looks, feels, and sounds like. The Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC), affectionately known as “The People’s House,” serves as the ideal canvas for this conversation: a building that is both a working center of municipal government and a landmark of Detroit’s enduring civic spirit.

Detroit has always been a city that builds things - not just automobiles, but culture, community, and meaning. Show Your Spirit is rooted in that legacy. The event envisions the CAYMC transformed into a vibrant hub of creative energy, where the lines between civic life and artistic expression dissolve, and the public is invited to see their city - and their government - in a new light.

The exhibition will feature an immersive collection of sculptures, architectural designs, and digital art. It will be open to visitors during CAYMC open hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm) from 9/14-9/25, with an opening reception.

We use Detroit's UNESCO City of Design designation as a call to action for Detroiters to embrace the Sustainable Development Goals in their own communities, contributing to the active effort of solving global interconnected issues.
