Show Your Spirit Opening Day

The Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority is proud to partner with Detroit Month of Design to host the Show Your Spirit kick-off event on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC). This immersive evening will feature sculptures, architectural designs, and digital mixed media set against a curated musical backdrop, utilizing both indoor and outdoor spaces of the CAYMC. The event holds significant importance for Detroit and the CAYMC, a moment when civic identity, creative expression, and the future of Detroit's urban landscape intersect.

More than an art exhibition, Show Your Spirit is a civic celebration - an open invitation to Detroiters, creatives, city leaders, and global visitors to gather in a space that belongs to all of them and engage in a living dialogue about what Detroit’s future looks, feels, and sounds like. The CAYMC, affectionately known as “The People’s House,” serves as the ideal canvas for this conversation: a building that is both a working center of municipal government and a landmark of Detroit’s enduring civic spirit.

Detroit has always been a city that builds things - not just automobiles, but culture, community, and meaning. Show Your Spirit is rooted in that legacy. The event envisions the CAYMC transformed into a vibrant hub of creative energy, where the lines between civic life and artistic expression dissolve, and the public is invited to see their city - and their government - in a new light.

The exhibition will feature an immersive collection of sculptures, architectural designs, and digital art.

We use Detroit's UNESCO City of Design designation as a call to action for Detroiters to embrace the Sustainable Development Goals in their own communities, contributing to the active effort of solving global interconnected issues.
