About the event
This proposal feels especially timely for Detroit. As the city continues to grow as a destination—particularly around transformative developments such as Michigan Central—there is a unique opportunity to create experiences that connect visitors and residents to neighborhoods, local stories, and the people who call Detroit home.
The project directly reflects the Detroit Month of Design theme, "Design Moves the Future," by using creative experiences, movement, and public space to shape how people understand and engage with the city.
The experience begins at Michigan Central with a guided bicycle ride through Detroit, allowing participants to experience the city at a human scale. Along the route, participants will stop at a paint-by-numbers mural installation where they will contribute to a collaborative public artwork. The event concludes at the Pink Flamingo for an optional dinner and community conversation focused on food equity in Corktown and along the Warner Corridor.
