YayaLand Takeover IV

YayaLand Takeover IV is a new installation along the Southwest Greenway by artist Yazmin Dababneh, right in between the historic Michigan Central train station and the brand new Riverwalk extension at the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park. This walkway has been transformed into an immersive, colorful environment that engages visitors on a sensory and emotional level. Using color as its primary medium, this project explores how light alone can shape atmosphere, influence movement, and uplift mood.

About the Artist: Yazmin Dababneh is an interdisciplinary, Detroit-based artist who focuses on creating sculptural work as well as immersive and interactive experiences. She has developed a material language by constantly combining and remixing various processes to visualize metaphysical concepts such as the nature of reality and quantum entanglement. Originally headed down a path to becoming a trauma surgeon, Dababneh eventually shifted into a more creative route and received a BFA in Craft and Material Studies with a concentration in Glass from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.

She has since dedicated her life to her practice, taking advantage of any and all creative opportunities that come her way - producing local permanent installations as well as exhibiting work internationally. Dababneh is currently working on creating a space to house and respond to her sculptures and installations - a place she calls "YayaLand."
