Designing Justice Designing Spaces
Community Event
The Love Building

The Grand River @ 14th social justice hub is a development that supports our mission to end mass incarceration by building spaces that foster economic growth and agency.
In Designing Justice + Designing Spaces’ design and development process, we are guided by the belief that “we go fast alone, far together.” What parts will each of us play in building a just future? This event invited community members, neighbors, designers, and community organizations to gather for an afternoon of food, music, creativity, and collective imagination.
Visitors participated in a facilitated community conversation in our circle space, sampled food and products from local vendors, listened to therapeutic sounds, played outdoor games, and built custom design with Sit-On-It Detroit.
This program was produced in partnership with Developing Despite Distance and other Detroit-based justice organizations.
About Designing Justice + Designing Spaces
Designing Justice + Designing Spaces (DJDS) is an architecture and real estate development nonprofit working to end mass incarceration by building infrastructure that addresses its root causes: poverty, racism, unequal access to resources, and the criminal justice system itself.
