Art in the Garden: Create & Take

Discover the beauty of art and nature at "Art in the Garden: Create & Take," a free, hands-on workshop designed for school-aged youth and their parents or caregivers. Set in a vibrant community garden, this free, interactive workshop invites families to explore the natural world through creativity while learning how art can inspire environmental stewardship.

Participants will create one-of-a-kind visual art projects using flowers, leaves, seeds, recycled materials, and other nature-inspired elements. Guided by professional art educators from the Detroit Art Teachers Association (DATA) and Peers Responding to Overlooked Matters in Social Environments (PR²OMiSE), families will discover artistic techniques, explore the importance of planting, and learn simple ways to care for the environment at home.

Inspired by UNESCO's vision for sustainable development, the workshop promotes creativity, quality education, environmental awareness, and community engagement in a fun and welcoming outdoor setting. All art supplies are included, and each participant will leave with a completed make-and-take artwork, new creative skills, and ideas for protecting our planet. Whether you're an experienced artist or trying something new, everyone is welcome to create, connect, and grow together.
