Remix the Palette

A hands-on design workshop led by Michael Ford, The Hip Hop Architect, translating the visual language of Detroit Hip Hop and Motown into material-based design expressions.

This hands-on workshop explored design through the powerful lens of Hip Hop and Motown culture. Led by architect and cultural innovator Michael Ford, widely known as The Hip Hop Architect, the session reimagined material palettes inspired by iconic album covers from Detroit Hip Hop and Motown legends.

Using Material Bank’s digital platform, the workshop translated the visual language of music into thoughtful, tangible design expressions. Hosted in partnership with The Hip Hop Architecture Camp and the College for Creative Studies, the resulting palettes were later assembled and displayed as part of Michael Ford’s Toyota Lecture.
