Join us for a runway show featuring the work of three Detroit-based fashion designers each creating collections of handmade garments. This show comes from a simple need to show a different proposition for fashion design in Detroit. Each designer has worked to interpret the theme ,,FOR THE LOVE OF…” in their own way to create a collection that reflects the mindset and craftsmanship of Detroit. While the city’s creativity and talent is vast, the current offers for new designers to show their work is very limited. ,,FOR THE LOVE OF’’ will establish new ideas and push the spirit of good, creative competition forward, inevitably fostering creativity throughout the city.
About Rey Pador
Rey is a teacher and fashion designer based in Detroit. A new transplant to the city of Detroit, Rey previously garnered experience in the high fashion circuit in Antwerp, Belgium, Paris, France, and New York,USA. Born and raised in Germany to Filipino parents, Rey had to understand early the dichotomy of being the other, which has heavily influenced their work. Interested in the lives that people live and the stories they can tell, Rey’s project LOVERS is focused on highlighting different aspects of love and the differences of understanding and receiving so. About Bailey Elayne
Bailey Elayne is a Detroit-born artist and designer. A Parsons and Central Saint Martins graduate, Bailey is excited to see design education and industry blooming in the city where she discovered her passion for creativity. She currently works as a design assistant, doing custom stagewear and collaborations in her free time. Through these personal projects, she explores femininity through the craft of beadwork, corsetry, applique, and printmaking. Her work is a culmination of her lifelong interest in all things cute and sweet…immortalized in her clothing, sculpture, and words.
About Hailei Benedict
Hailei is a textile artist and knitwear designer based in Detroit. Her brand, r4tgrll, is an experimental knitwear and textiles brand focused on circularity in the fashion industry. Hailei uses secondhand or locally sourced materials, challenging standard uses of fibers and other textiles. Hailei is primarily a commission-based designer, encouraging customers to learn more about the design process and bring more intention to building a lasting wardrobe. Her practice is inspired by traditional sustainable practices from BIPOC communities, where adaptive reuse and a circular economy is ingrained into our everyday lives, often as a means for survival.
