Hosted by Michigan Central Art in collaboration with Design Core Detroit, Futures in Formation: Designing the Imaginative City is a daylong forum exploring how design, shaped by migration and cultural exchange, reimagines civic engagement. Throughout the day, the forum aims to translate these expansive ideas into implementable and tangible opportunities to directly benefit Detroit’s communities and future developments.


Detroit stands as a connector, a global city shaped by movement and migration where generations of visionaries have transformed civic life. Its layered past reveals how cultural memory can reimagine public systems and inspire new ways of living, offering a powerful framework for addressing contemporary challenges and building a more equitable future in Detroit.
