About the event
PIN-UP: An upcycling and pin felting workshop at ISAIC will allow participants to give new life to old and underutilized textile waste by processing it into new textiles using ISAIC's FeltLOOM machine. Created by Kentucky sheep farmers, the FeltLOOM machine is a 60-inch flatbed needle-felter that creates new textiles from scrap fabric, wool, and other materials. Participants will learn about sustainability issues related to textile waste and have the chance to create their own custom throw pillow using materials they bring in and scrap waste provided by ISAIC, Carhartt, and other partners. The workshop will be guided by Sophie Yan, winner of ISAIC's Pin felting Design R&D grant, with instruction on textile design and processing material through the FeltLOOM machine. ISAIC volunteers will then sew the textiles into a pillow that volunteers can stuff using scrap material from ISAIC.
