Wild.Form: Domestic Survival
See Original Designs for Essential, Adaptable Furniture and Objects for the Home
Time & Location
Sep 20, 2026, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Floyd HQ, 1500 Trumbull, Detroit, MI 48216, USA
About the event
Wild.Form is a democratic design initiative in three parts: an exhibition, a publication, and a series of workshops, putting professional design knowledge into the hands of everyday Detroiters. No design degree required. Our inaugural exhibition and publication, Domestic Survival, will be on view for at Floyd HQ, and features a curated cohort of professional designers, artists, and makers who've developed original designs for essential, adaptable furniture and objects for the home. These are "recipes," built with minimal materials and basic tools, so anyone can pick up a tool (or borrow one) and get started. Wild.Form is a direct response to "fast furniture" and the disposable culture it creates, especially as housing grows more precarious. We believe the answer isn't more cheap, short-lived pieces, but durable, adaptable objects that help people thrive at home. In doing so, Wild.Form continues a long legacy of democratic design, rooted in access, autonomy, and empowerment.
Come see the original works up close and pick up a physical copy of the publication to make your own versions of the pieces.
Join us for our opening party on September 11th at Floyd HQ, and let's make something cool together.
Follow @wild.form.project for updates and behind-the-scenes.
Opening party Sep 11, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
Available for viewing on Sep 12, Sep 13, Sep 19, and Sep 20 from 11 am to 5 pm.
UN SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
We use Detroit's UNESCO City of Design designation as a call to action for Detroiters to embrace the Sustainable Development Goals in their own communities, contributing to the active effort of solving global interconnected issues.
